Trevor Jones was the coolest kid to walk the halls at Oregon’s Beavertown High. That is, until last Friday.
After throwing a game-winning touchdown against crosstown rival Waterfall Prep, Jones grabbed the hand of disabled classmate Victoria Cunningham and led her onto the field. In front of a full crowd, Jones belted out the love ballad that is Bruno Mars’ “Just The Way You Are” before asking Cunningham to be his prom date.
As the question dropped, a sweeping silence filled the stadium, until Cunningham replied with a swift “no thanks.”
“OMG VICTORIA JUST REJECTED TREVOR!” tweeted classmate Rebecca Caleb.
“Victoria 👏 Cunningham 👏 Is 👏 My 👏 Heartcrushing 👏 Queen,” replied another classmate.
Katie Balstopalis, Cunningham’s closest friend, wasn’t surprised at her friend’s choice, but was surprised at how she delivered it. “I expected her to say no, but I didn’t expect what came next. The detailed explanation of why Trevor was the 148th best possible prom date at the school seemed unexpectedly harsh, and the comment about how he failed to make his ex-girlfriend Julia Mistletoe orgasm once during the entirety of their junior year relationship was the nail in the coffin.”
Instead, Cunningham will be attending the prom with softball superstar and her closest gal pal Tonya Parker. The two friends have been inseparable since meeting in woodworking club, and bonded over a love of Stevie Nicks and watching reruns of “Veronica Mars.” Cunningham says, “Tonya is such a special friend to me, and I couldn’t picture going to prom with anyone else.”
