After weighing the pros and cons, I finally decided to talk to my doctor about stimulant medication to treat ADHD. It’s been a game changer … when I remember to take it!
For years I was warned about the dangers of stimulant medication by movies, the news and random family members. Sure, it might be the only thing that would allow me to actually focus on a task instead of spending hours in buffering mode, roaming around my house like a forlorn Sims character. And sure, studies have continually shown that taking stimulant medication actually decreases the likelihood that a child with ADHD will self-medicate or fall into a pattern of substance abuse. But like many medications, it can be dangerous when misused.
However, it turns out my pre-medication ADHD morning brain can’t even properly remember to take my daily controlled substance. I’ve tried everything — pill containers, alarms, setting my prescription bottles by my bedside — but it turns out nothing can beat my brain’s addiction to mindlessly scrolling on my phone while watching vlogs of other people being productive.
I started seeking treatment for my ADHD, thinking I would finally become a cool, Adderall-charged party girl. Turns out all it’s done is make me a semifunctional adult. Still, I enjoy living on the edge and feeling the rush of occasionally forgetting to take my meds, spending an entire day staring at the wall and hyperfixating on Bob’s Burgers lore. Now that’s the good stuff!

Very relatable!
When I think of the situations my buffered and buff Sims people have been over the years…
