This Double Amputee Motivational Speaker Puts Her Legs on One Leg at a Time

Motivational speaker Jennifer Walsh is many things: a skier, an author, an orator, an educator, an advocate and, perhaps most visibly, a double amputee. But she wants everyone to know that she is, first and foremost, a normal person. In fact, in her latest talk, she was very proud to tell her audience that she puts her legs on one leg at a time just like everyone else. After losing her legs in a skiing accident, Walsh, the daughter of the CEO of a public relations firm, turned her life around.

Walsh says that with time, dedication and resources like money and social support that she is certain most people have access to, anyone can overcome whatever adversity comes their way.

“I just really wanted people to know that I can do normal things the way everyone can. I put my shoes on, I walk around town with my titanium legs. Sure, I write an inspirational message on social media to hundreds of thousands of followers who hype me up; if you have something important to say, people will flock to you!

If you’re like me, with grit, determination and a family ready to shell out for the most top-of-the-line medical technology and therapies, you too can achieve anything! Even if you lose both your legs in a tragic accident doing dangerous athletic activities that most people don’t have the money or time to even attempt!”

Now Walsh can ski every season using her prosthetics and adaptive equipment. But she also wants her audience to know the importance of mental health.

“If anything like what happens to me happens to any of you, make sure you get yourself an appointment with the best sports psychologist you can find! Take care of yourself!”
