Note: The fetuses have not yet been given legal names and thus will be referred to as Fetus A, Fetus B and Fetus C.
The Squeaky Wheel sat down with three unborn fetuses who have been diagnosed with prenatal disabilities and asked about their views on abortion. All of them agreed that the mother should have the choice to terminate her pregnancy, regardless of circumstance.
SQUEAKY WHEEL: Thank you for taking the time out of your gestation cycles to be here today. Let’s start with your personal views on abortion.
FETUS A: I believe that our mothers should have complete control over their pregnancies. Abortions should be widely available and not just in cases of incest or rape or to save the mother’s life.
FETUS B: Obviously, let the mother decide. This shouldn’t even be an issue!
FETUS C: [fiddles with umbilical cord] I don’t know. I was an embryo yesterday, so I don’t know a lot of things. Let people do what they want.
SW: How do you feel about politicians using you to promote an anti-abortion agenda?
FETUS A: Conservatives assume that unborn fetuses are all anti-abortion, but that’s not true at all. I’d estimate we are 70-30 in favor of pro-choice. Even those of use with prenatal conditions!
FETUS B: I’m sick of people using us as talking points without consulting us. Nothing about us without us!
FETUS C: [floats upside down] What are politicians?
SW: What would you tell people who invoke eugenics as an argument against abortion?
FETUS A: Eugenics is a systemic process and has nothing to do with giving people the choice to abort their fetuses.
FETUS B: Don’t!
FETUS C: [visibly confused] “You-gen-X?” I think we’re Gen Alpha.
SW: When does life begin?
FETUS A: At birth.
FETUS B: Irrelevant!
FETUS C: [yawns] Is this over yet?
SW: Well, that’s all the time we have for today. Any final words?
FETUS A: I hope that our answers will clear up any misconceptions people have about fetuses with prenatal conditions and our views on abortion.
FETUS B: To set the record straight once and for all, a lot of unborn fetuses are pro-choice!
FETUS C: Final words? I’m not ready to be born yet!
