Demonstrating just how far reactionary attitudes have permeated American culture, American assholes- the United States variant of a global demographic known for its mission to make the human experience worse for everyone, including themselves- have made it clear that disabled people staging a Capitol Crawl-style protest would elicit no sympathy from them whatsoever.
Preempting any hopes of noble disabled people across the nation seeking to preserve or strengthen anti-discrimination protections, assholes reiterate that any attempt to pay homage to the Capitol Crawl- a live demonstration during which scores of disabled people literally crawled up the steps of the steps of the Capitol Building without mobility aides- would do jack shit to alter their perspective. This, despite its instrumental role in the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1991.
A joint statement from the largest asshole union in the nation, the Assholes Conniving for Leverage and Undermining (ACLU- that’s right, fuck you!) read, in part:
“Decades ago, people of our ilk- assholes- would have heartstrings that these useless bastards could tug on, sentiments that would warm the cold, black hole where our hearts should’ve been so that we would actually grow one, but now? Now, we’ve stormed back in this current era, more toxic, more willfully ignorant, and more dedicated to suffering than ever! And that includes both broad and targeted forms!”
Later, a spokesman for the ACLU- that’s right, fuck you! interrupted a Squeaky Wheel reporter interviewing a dejected disabled activist whose name could not be verified, and venomously remarked:
“Do these feeble, weak, pathetic r*****s think that we’re going to be moved by witnessing them struggle? That we would allow them to make life easier for anyone? Our reign of terror has resumed, and we would not let them stand in our way, even if they could!”
It just goes to show that while the Capitol Crawl helped drag a nation toward basic civil rights for disabled Americans, some assholes remain impressively committed to not moving an inch.
