Have you noticed how each election season, everyone assumes they know who you support based on your demographics? Christian? Got to be Republican. Queer? Democrat. Ignorant? Republican. Annoying? Democrat.
It’s tiresome, and I’m here to publicly reclaim my autonomy in the hopes of inspiring more people to think independently. I, Derrick Deacon, 47, SSDI recipient in poverty and Medicaid/Medicare dual beneficiary, support Donald J. Trump to be the next president of the United States. Here’s why.
- He’ll fix the economy. Of course I agree that gay people should be allowed to get married and that women should be encouraged to get abortions if I’m the father, but ultimately the single issue affecting me most is the empty space in my wallet. I only receive $800 each month from the government (in addition to my healthcare), and that isn’t enough to pay rent or buy groceries.
But with Trump’s genius business skills, he will raise the stock market so high that I will have enough stocks to build myself a house of stocks and eat the rest for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Gross domestic product? More like tasty domestic product if you ask me. - You don’t need to be friends with your candidate to support them. Do I think Trump is kind? No. Do I want to grab a beer with him? Absolutely not. But we’re not picking our wedding party here, we’re picking a world leader. Who really wants a president who is nice, or cool, or generous, or able to handle themselves professionally in an even remotely diplomatic manner?
- We’re losing (sub-minimum wage) disabled jobs. In a disaster for disabled people, 16 states have eliminated or otherwise restricted eligibility for 14(c) certificates. Let’s face it: It’s not realistic to expect businesses to value disabled workers as much as those who are not disabled — and frankly, why pay ’em more when you can pay ’em less? Trump’s free market policies will remove these harmful regulations and reopen the pathway to work: a welcome slave in an otherwise exclusionary labor market. I mean salve, a welcome salve.
- He’s just as cool with genocide. Sure, Kamala Harris is “working tirelessly” to negotiate a ceasefire, but what better use of my taxpayer dollars than to boost the IDF’s bomb collection? They need that money more than I do.
- He’s just like me, for real. I don’t trust career politicians like Crooked Hillary or Sleepy Joe. But you know who I do trust? Billionaires who play golf all day and have weird obsessions with crowd sizes. I know Kamala is a child of immigrants, and Tim Walz is a military veteran and former school teacher, but they just can’t relate to me the way an old real estate tycoon with 34 felony convictions can.
America was once great, then not so great, then great again (2016-2020), and now it’s back to not great. It’s time to “Make America Great Again” again.
