Many disabled people rely on personal care assistants, or PCAs, to assist with tasks of daily living. After spending so much time with their clients, PCAs often become their friends, or, in the case of this list … begin as Friends?
6. Ross
I’m sorry but Ross just has bad vibes written all over him. Whether his pet monkey is flinging feces at my medical equipment or he’s skipping work to go on another hot date with someone way out of his league, I just don’t trust the guy. If he can’t take care of his own son (who mysteriously disappears in the show’s final seasons), he can’t take care of me.
5. Rachel
While Rachel is generally full of enthusiasm, I’m worried that her upper class upbringing would make her see personal care work as beneath her, and that she would not really put in enough effort. She thrived at that corporate fashion job, but she was a pretty mediocre barista, and she has a lot to juggle with her love life and career ambitions.
4. Joey
Joey would absolutely struggle with the executive function requirements of PCA work, but that smile could charm his struggles away. He may not be the most competent or reliable, but his loyalty and friendship would make him a delightful companion for life’s hardships. Plus, he technically already played medical personnel on a soap opera!
3. Chandler
Chandler Bing is what everyone looks for in a PCA. He’s funny, he’s good at his job and he’s a great partner. Could I BE any clearer?
2. Monica
Similar to her husband Chandler, Monica possesses many qualities of a great PCA. She is a hard worker, focused and extremely detail-oriented. I can only imagine how organized my supplies would be if she worked in my home!
1. Phoebe
Oh Lisa Kudrow … er, Phoebe, how I yearn for your daily companionship. What Phoebe lacks in workplace skills, she more than makes up for with whimsy. Want to see if hallucinogenic mushrooms will help my anxiety? She’s already brewing the tea. Want to see if a sunset drive down the highway will calm me down after a day of shitty doctor’s appointments? She’s already started the van.
With Phoebe’s majestic aura and a smelly cat by our side, I feel secure and safe. Plus, she’s definitely neurodivergent herself, so you know she gets it.
