Who Said It: A Disability Charity or a Eugenicist?

“A democracy cannot endure unless it be composed of able citizens; therefore it must in self-defence withstand the free introduction of degenerate stock.”

Answer: Eugenicist!

Source: Francis Galton, who coined the term “eugenics.” This quote comes from his memoir, Memories of My Life, specifically from Chapter XXI, titled “Race Improvement”

“I am autism. I am visible in your children. But if I can help it, I am invisible to you until it’s too late. I know where you live. And guess what? I live there too. I know no color barrier, no religion, no morality, no currency. I work faster than pediatric cancer, AIDS, and diabetes combined. If you are happily married, I will make sure that your marriage fails. Your money will fall into my hands and I will bankrupt you for my own self gain….”

Answer: Disability Charity!

Source: This is from a 2009 Advertisement for Autism Speaks, titled “I Am Autism.” The ad continues in this ominous narration for three and a half minutes. To this day, Autism Speaks has not lived down the criticism of being a bit eugenicist, partly because it took them over ten years to abandon the ad’s attendant slogan, “Autism: the killer is still out there.”

“God goofed, and it’s up to us to correct his mistakes.”

Answer: Disability Charity!

Source: This came from the 1973 airing of the annual Jerry Lewis Telethon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Lewis said this a child with muscular dystrophy and addressing the camera. To keep the spirit of Lewis alive, last year the Library of Congress made footage available of Lewis’ unreleased film, ” The Day the Clown Cried,” where he plays a clown who entertains children at a Nazi concentration camp.

“We must abort the babies in order to keep the babies from living, and then perhaps eat the babies, because they are stupid babies who may not be fit to live but may still make a good sandwich.”

Answer: Who the heck knows!

Source: According to my patriot uncle’s Twitter account, which posted a strange rant about eugenics in the progressive movement the other day, Margaret Sanger said this at the founding of Planned Parenthood, and all of the women there grew horns and emphatically agreed.

“Those people…the shape they’re in, all the expenses, maybe those kinds of people should just die.”

Answer: Eugenicist!

Source: In a Time Magazine article, Fred C. Trump III reported his uncle Donald said this to him during a visit to the Oval Office. Trump III, whose son has a disability caused by a rare genetic mutation, had organized a trip for himself and other advocates to educate the President on disability issues. When the advocates left, Donald invited his nephew back into his office to share his takeaway – that maybe those kinds of people should just die. A speechless Trump III said he turned and walked away.
