Bad Dog! We Ranked the Worst Fictional Canines for Disability Services

It’s not easy being a service animal. There’s plenty of training and testing just to qualify, not to mention the awkward interactions with strangers who want to pet them despite the vest clearly saying “don’t.”

The animals in service are trying their best. The creatures on this list, however, won’t be wearing that vest any time soon. Here are the top four famous canines who would be terrible as service dogs.

4. Snoopy
This is an obvious choice; he’s loyal but is very prone to flights of fancy. Imagine having to apologize for your dog’s behavior because he’s in the middle of an air fight with the Red Baron, or working on the next great American novel, or riding in a motocross race.

3. Clifford the Big Red Dog
Yes, we know Clifford means well, but his size makes it extremely difficult to navigate buildings. Unless your entryway is literally the size of an airplane hangar, he won’t be going inside. Plus, it takes hours (not to mention several people) to put the service vest on him when he’s about to go on duty.

2. The dog from Duck Hunt
Even if he was trained to do other things, you know he’s waiting for you to trip on the curb and laugh at you. Just leave him alone to find ducks or fight other Nintendo characters.

1. The dog from “The Thing” (1982)
Actually? We’re pretty sure there’s nothing wrong with this dog. It’s not like he’ll hurt anyone … right?
