Isabella Johnson, a disabled and chronically ill woman, sat down with The Squeaky Wheel to discuss why she welcomes her new symptoms as a distraction from all her other symptoms.
“This was GREAT timing for disease progression! I really needed this,” Johnson told us excitedly.
She elaborated: “My life has been falling apart in multiple ways recently, so it’s nice to finally have a change and only be focused on my body falling apart. I’m so scared about what’s happening with my health that suddenly everything else seems less overwhelming in comparison. This is seriously a huge win for me. I feel so relieved.”
Her disabled friend felt similarly: “I love this perspective! It really makes you feel thankful to be unhealthy. We should all try to have more empathy for abled and healthy people. It must be so hard for them — I just don’t know how they cope.”
Johnson added, “I highly recommend that everyone try to develop an incurable progressive disease! You never know what’s going to happen next symptom-wise — it’s really exciting at times! If you’ve been trying to develop a disease for years and you’re still able-bodied, don’t give up. It could happen at any time. I’m praying for you.”
