Listen to Our ‘Songs that Hit Different When You’re Disabled’ Playlist

Life doesn’t come with a built-in soundtrack, but we can help you create one! Gone are the days of boring flares; we’ve curated a selection of songs that are perfect accompaniments for your symptoms:

“Ridin’” by Chamillionaire ft. Krayzie Bone
This is an absolute classic that is perfect for the mobility aid users out there! We recommend blasting this on the boombox you’ve attached to the back of your wheelchair. For best results, wear sunglasses — they’ll protect your photosensitive eyes AND you’ll look cool doing it!

“Timber” by Pitbull ft. Ke$ha
Dysautonomia might get you down sometimes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t struggle in style! This song is best blasted when you start to feel a little fuzzy and you’re going down. TIMBER!

“Shake It” by Metro Station
Tremors and muscle spasms are begging for a backing track! Now you can give them one, as you do it like this and you move it like that.

“Light My Fire” by Stevie Wonder
Here’s a little throwback to the ’60s for a multipurpose track. This song is perfect for a burning neuropathy flare at 3 a.m., hot flashes, fevers and your inadequate temperature regulation.

“Pressure” by Company of Thieves
Have you ever just been desperate to lower your blood pressure? Me too! Maybe this sick playlist will help you as that pressure is rising!

“Senses Working Overtime” by Mandy Moore
Sensory overload is public enemy #2 for spoonies (#1 is stairs). It can be difficult to explain to others, so we recommend playing this one when your senses are working overtime and you don’t have the bandwidth to explain. It should distract them for a couple minutes. QUICKLY! Go to a quiet spot!

“Down with the Sickness” by Disturbed
Need we say more? We’re all chronically down with the sickness here, and this track is the perfect anthem to organize your pill containers to.

“Spasticus Autisticus” by Ian Dury and the Blockheads
In addition to being catchy, it’s a great battle cry and answer to intrusive strangers in the grocery store: “I have a condition that makes me hobble when I wobble. Have you never seen someone who has Spasticus Autisticus, ma’am?”

“Pinball Wizard” by The Who
Special shoutout to the neurodivergent people out there with special interests! This is an anthem for all the people who are wizards of their interests and play a mean pinball — or whatever you do!
