The Squeaky Wheel is proud to be recognized as a 2026 Easterseals Disability Arts & Culture Awards nominee for Best Social Creator.
This prestigious honor is determined by actual disabled people, who, despite the better judgment of their sponsors (we assume), made the controversial decision to acknowledge a group of crippled internet clowns.
While we have a long history of receiving riches, accolades, trophies and the like, we are particularly delighted to receive this unique honor. We hope this event spotlights authentic disability representation, and provides disabled artists and activists with a night to celebrate, drink wine, and complain that the air conditioning is a bit much.
We created The Squeaky Wheel because we wanted a fully disabled platform to embrace fully disabled comedy. The DARCYS are now a true home to recognize fully disabled talent. They are a place for community, and a place where authentic, real-life disabled people can debate whether or not it’s rude to follow around a woman with an arancini platter in search of additional arancini. Fingers crossed there’s arancini.
For all these reasons, we would like to thank Easterseals, the DARCYS nomination committee, and, specifically, the person who waived our application fee.
At the end of the day, we didn’t decide to be disabled for money or fame. Like Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hanks, Daniel Day-Lewis, and so many other white men in Hollywood, we did it purely for the awards recognition.
