Date Ideas for Your Disabled Valentine

Valentine's Day is just around the corner! Many couples are scrambling to make last-minute plans, and our community is no different. Looking for something fun to do with your disabled valentine? Here are eight great date ideas:

Go on a classic dinner-and-a-movie date
Sometimes simplicity can be great — just check that the restaurant can accommodate your date's dietary restrictions and the movie theater is accessible! If you need captions, I hope you like seeing a kids movie at 10:30AM.

Take an art or cooking class together
Doing an activity together is a great bonding experience, and you'll leave with a nice memento that technically isn't a Medicaid-countable asset. Plus, it can be a great way to discover new passions together.

Make a scavenger hunt
This is your chance to get really sentimental with things that represent your relationship. Make sure it's in a format that your date can find easily if they have mobility or visual difficulties, unless you feel like being mean.

Have a picnic in the park
This is another classic one, but it can provide you with more flexibility in terms of the menu. It's great for those with a lot of dietary restrictions looking for a change of pace from at-home meals!

Burn down this ableist system and roast marshmallows on the ensuing fire
Bring your own marshmallows or swap them out with an equally roastable .

Dismantle and use the parts for crafts
Repurposing the parts is eco-friendly, and whatever you make can be a reminder of the date!

Dance on the graves of oppressors
Clubs can be overstimulating, but dancing is a fun activity. Bust a move in a cemetery to avoid the way-too-many people and all the bright lights!

Visit an art museum or
This one is great for the introverted creatives out there! You can tailor it to your love's artistic tastes and even get them a gift while you're there. This can also be a great virtual date, thanks to the plethora of online art galleries.

Happy Valentine's Day!
